Manannán Anglesey hostelling 2-4 November

Manannán News

Manannán will be going on a hostelling trip to Anglesey, Wales, for 2 nights from 2-4 November. We will be staying in Anglesey Outdoors Hostel. The following are final details of the trip.

Times

We will be meeting outside Terminal 1 (Irish Ferries) in Dublin Port at 0700 on Friday 2 November. Our ETA back in Dublin Port on Sunday 4 November is 1725 so collection will be around 1800, also from Terminal 1 (Irish Ferries).

 

Directions

Drop-off and collection will be from Terminal 1 (Irish Ferries) in Dublin Port, please click here for directions. Cross the Eastlink Bridge, and follow signs for Terminal 1. Then follow signs for Foot Passengers Check-In (separate lane to Car Passengers). Please allow time for traffic around the Terminal.

 

Gear list

All Scouts must wear their Manannán training top and neckerchief at all times on the ferry.

All gear must be packed in one back-pack as we will be walking to the hostel. No loose items are permitted by Irish Ferries. Please click here for information on luggage on Irish Ferries.

Medication if required – MUST be brought to attention of Section Leaders

Packed lunch for Friday

Passport

Hiking boots (to be worn on ferry as we will be walking to hostel)

Rain gear (jacket and leggings)

High visibility vest

Change of clothes for 2 nights (t-shirts, jumpers, trousers, underwear etc.)

Warm clothes (fleece, hat etc.)

Towel

Wash bag/toiletries

Swimming shorts

Old clothes for activities (as specified by activity operators):

  • old t-shirt/ rash vest x2 (long-sleeved x1)
  • old trousers that can get muddy
  • old runners that can get wet

Water bottle

Torch

€10 spending money as we may get lunch in Holyhead on Sunday

Mobile phones ARE NOT PERMITTED on this trip.

Fry Cup: October 2018

Manannán News

Comhghairdeachas to Manannán for a very strong performance to win the Fry Cup 2018. The Fry Cup was established in 1918, and the Manannán team was presented with the same silver trophy that was presented to the first winners 100 years ago.

Big Beach Clean: September 2018

Thank you and well done to all from 8ú Calafort who participated in the Big Beach Clean 2018. As part of a national initiative, the 8ú Calafort team spent half an hour removing litter from the vicinity of Dún Laoghaire Inner Harbour, and collected the following:

94 cigarette butts

79 aluminium cans

74 plastic bags

55 food wrappers

40 plastic bottles

25 paper bags

23 plastic forks/knives/spoons

21 metal bottle caps

20 paper cups/plates

18 glass bottles

17 plastic bottle caps

15 plastic lids

9 plastic cups/plates

5 plastic take-away containers

5 foam cups/plates

4 fishing lines

4 straws/stirrers

2 foam take-away containers

2 ropes

1 fishing buoy

1 fishing net

This substantial amount of waste was all either in the water or in the vicinity of the water, but has now been removed and properly disposed of to prevent it from further damaging our environment.
