Fodhla Summer Camp 2010 - Times PDF Print E-mail
Written by Declan McGrath

Fodhla will depart for Summer Camp on Sunday July 25 at 12:00 sharp.  It is important that everyone is at the Den by 11:30 on that Sunday.  Please refer to Kit List for what you must bring.

(Please remember that this is a Scout Camp and not a fashion parade, so clothing with designer labels are not really suitable as they may get destroyed, and Uggs won't be suitable as boots. !)

Fodhla will return from Camp on Tuesday August 3rd and will arrive in the Dena at approx 15:00.  No one will be allowed to leave until the truck is unloaded and everything has been put away.

The Group is proposing to run supervised Summer Boating Sessions during the weeks prior to Sumer Camp.  The first of these will take place on Monday (Bank Holiday Monday) and Tuesday of next week from 10:00 to 15:00 each day.  Thereafter, they will be on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00 to 15:00 each day.  They will be run a "week by week" basis depending on demand and availability of vessels.  These are supervised, not instruction, sessions.  Check the web for updates.

There is no cost for these sessions.

Full and proper boating gear must be worn and NECKERS MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES - EVEN WHEN SAILING.

Any Fodhla Gasoga wishing to take part must first make sure that a Fodhla WL will be in attendance.  Please contact your WL directly.

All Gasoga must obey the instructions of the supervising leader.

The normal Fodhla summer schedule will commence next week with boating on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 19:30 to 21:30 each night.

Fodhla Summer Camp 2010 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Declan McGrath

Having had a very successful Easter Camp the next main event on the Calendar will be Summer Camp which takes place from July 25 to August 3.  The planning for Summer Camp is gathering momentum, and this year will be held on Inchmore Island, Lough Rí, Co Westmeath.  The cost of Summer Camp will be EUR220 (same as last year), subject to sufficient Gasoga attending.

In order to guage the likely numbers for camp we require a non-refundable deposit of €50 (Cash, or Cheque payable to "Fodhla") by Thursday May 20. ( We require a minimum of 30 Fodhla Scouts to make the camp financially viable).  Also, as a male leader in charge of a female troop I am required to have females aged 18 or over, who are not part of my troop, present for the duration of the camp.  In this regard I am appealing to Mums or older sisters/ friends/ relatives of scouts to help out on this year's Summer Camp.  In return I can offer Air Conditioned accommodation (Tent), Al Fresco dining experience (cooking on camp fire), Access to Water Sports (Sailing and rowing) and plenty of fresh air.  Fodhla Summer Camp will be dependant on having enough adult females ( aged over 18) to cover the 10 days.  This could be done on a rota basis with each group of volunteers covering perhaps two or three days each.  All those interested can contact me by phone or e-mail.

Fodhla Hoodies and / or T-Shirts can be ordered, subject to sufficient demand, for those who want them and will take about four weeks to arrive.
