Fódhla crews enjoy Long Distance Skiff Race

Fódhla News

Fódhla crew no.1 were ready under the watchful eye of cox Almha for the 11am start of the Long Distance Skiff Race from Dun Laoghaire to the 4th Port Dodder Sea Scout Den (approx. 14km). Conditions were perfect – calm water, light airs and sunshine! Once underway, Fódhla settled into a strong, steady rhythm. The skiff was kept company by Stiofán in his rib and Skipper Brian Welsh on New Moon along with his crew of cheering Eriú cubs, Fódhla entered the mouth of the Liffey at the Poolbeg Lighthouse just ahead of the Stenaline and a fast moving cargo ship. Fódhla changed crew at Costello’s slip on the Great South Wall and the fresh no.2 crew pulled away up the Liffey beneath the Poolbeg Chimneys and container cranes before passing under the East Link Bridge and turning up the Dodder at Ringsend towards the finish line. Great rowing by the girls as they improve on their strength and skills each year.
